A message from our Congress Director

Dear colleagues

We realise we have all been dealing with COVID this past year and it has been such a long time since we have had the opportunity to get together in person. We also know that the Intensive Care Society’s Congress, State of the Art (SOA), provides the perfect and unique opportunity to unite our community. It was an essential decision to postpone SOA20 until 2021 but an even more difficult one to decide whether to move to a virtual Congress or have the face-to-face we have all been craving.

We have thought long and hard to consider our delivery of SOA21 and considering what we are still facing this year, and the risks of additional waves, we have decided to deliver SOA21 virtually this December. However, one thing is for certain, being virtual will not stop us from putting on the best three-day virtual Congress we can as there is so much for us to catch up on, learn, share, and celebrate.

The virtual platform we have selected will allow us to deliver our four stream Congress programme across the three days and because it is virtual it is easier to flip between streams. We have also increased our abstract options this year so there are now 5 categories (eposters & oral platform, the Cauldron, MDT Diaries, Rising Star – ICS Gold Medal and Ultrasound Ninja). We know we can’t substitute a face-to-face experience, but we are confident that this platform will still deliver all the elements of our in-person event. The other added benefit of a virtual Congress is that all of the content is recorded, so that if you miss any sessions or you want to go back and re-listen, you can for 6 months, making the most of the CPD credits available.

Every year we promise you expert speakers from around the world and this year is no different. We are incredibly excited to have already secured some of the best names in our community, Government, and wider NHS colleagues that we know you will enjoy.

The Society’s #SOA21 Congress is a place to unite the entire multi professional intensive care community. We have carefully considered the delegate fees to reflect this and have introduced a new super early bird rate with prices ranging from £20 to £150. Make sure you book before 30 July to take advantage of these rates. I very much hope to welcome you to SOA 2021 from 6 – 8 December. Stay safe..

Watch this space for news of #SOA22 – an exciting announcement coming soon!
