Calling Artemis: Gyne and Obstetric Critical Illness

Overview

Artemis was worshipped as one of the primary goddesses of childbirth and midwifery.

Artemis is the daughter of Zeus and Leto, and the twin sister of Apollo. She was the patron and protector of young children and women. She had a chaste life and was famed for inflicting terrible disease upon women and children but also providing cures to relieve them of it. 

This theme addresses maternal and women’s health in extremis.  We look at the development and implementation of scoring systems, MDT outreach and outcomes.  

We know that pregnancy can lead to certain hyper coagulable states and that COVID in pregnancy brings special challenges. We look at the pathophysiology of these phenomena and how to treat them
