Andrew Bates is an intensive care nurse and clinical educator, with over 20 years’ experience. He has progressed through the NIHR Integrated Clinical Academic pathway, and in April 2022, began his NIHR funded Clinical Doctoral Research Fellowship. He is chief investigator and co-applicant on a range of projects investigating how to improve the recovery of intensive care survivors and support the wellbeing of staff.
Andrew’s doctoral project is investigating whether Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing can improve psychological recovery following critical illness. In support of this project, he has drawn together and is working with, a team of eminent clinical academics from intensive care, psychiatry and psychology. At SOA22, Andrew will present findings from CovEMERALD, his novel EMDR feasibility study.
