Binila Chacko

I am an Intensive care specialist at the Christian Medical College Vellore. My stint with ICU began in 2001 as a young doctor out of med school when I was asked to take care of an ICU in a small peripheral hospital in India! I loved the subject and knew that this was my calling. After my training in General Medicine, I moved on to the Division of Critical Care at CMC Vellore in 2008. I was fortunate to have spent 3 years in Australia between 2011 and 14 where I completed my ICU training and I have been in India ever since. Intensive Care at Vellore is exciting- we have a wealth of cases across all specialities. Some unique aspects to our ICU spectrum include poisoning, envenomation and infectious diseases such as tropical diseases and tuberculosis.

I have a passion for teaching, quality and research. I am the coordinator of the Very BASIC and CaRe courses associated with the Chinese University of Hong Kong. On the administrative front, I am involved in quality assurance and am the Deputy Director of Quality here at Vellore. On the national level, I am a member of the Research Committee of the Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine. On the home front: my husband Abhay is a Pediatric Orthopedic surgeon, I have a 14 year old son and a 2 year old golden retriever.
