Chris is a consultant intensive care physician in Coventry, where he has been clinical lead for critical care for the past two years. He graduated from Birmingham Medical School in 1999. He has a PhD from the University of Warwick for research he completed in macrophage steroid metabolism in the acute respiratory distress syndrome. More recently his research interests have focussed on the decisions made surrounding escalation of care and admission to the intensive care unit. He has published on how to improve how these decisions are made and the communication surrounding them. He has also run educational courses on these topics. He is a member of the FICM professional affairs and safety committee, and co-authored the FICM guidance on end-of-life care. Chris lives in the West Midlands and has interests outside Medicine that include wildlife conservation and cricket. He intermittently tweets as @ICUdecisions.
