Ella is a critical care dietitian and currently the Trust Nutrition Lead at Royal Brompton &
Harefield NHS foundation Trust, London. She is passionate about raising the profile of
nutrition for critically ill patients and the role the dietitian plays. She has a substantial
research background, and was a core member of the CALORIES trial team as investigator
and NEJM co-author.
She has lectured extensively on all aspects of critical care nutrition. Ella is actively involved
representing dietitians at the Intensive Care Society and a key member of the State of the
Art conference committee. She also provided the dietetic perspective to the first ever
ICS/FICM AHP Professional Development Framework. Ella is a co-founder and chair of the
BDA critical care special and in June 2016 was awarded an IBEX award from the BDA for
services to critical care dietetics. She has ventured onto social media and can be found on
