MÁIRTÍN MAC GABHANN

MÁIRTÍN MAC GABHANN

“Máirtín Mac Gabhann is an organ donation campaigner from Ballymurphy in West Belfast. The Irish language teacher established the Donate4Dáithí campaign in June of 2018 upon finding out that a heart transplant would be the only hope for his son, Dáithí. The Donate4Dáithí campaign aims to normalise the subject of organ donation within our society, through raising awareness. Throughout the campaign, Máirtín and family tirelessly lobbied for the change of law with regards to organ donation in N. Ireland. As a result of this hard work and determination, Minister of Health Robin Swann subsequently announced that The Organ and Tissue Donation (Deemed Consent) Act (Northern Ireland) 2022 will be known as “Dáithí’s Law”. On the 1st of June 2022, Dáithí reached a milestone of 4 years on the waiting list for a heart transplant. The campaign continues to raise awareness and normalise organ donation whilst waiting on that all important phone call with the news of a heart for Dáithí.“
