Rachael Morrison is an Advanced Practitioner working currently 50:50 within Paediatric Intensive care (PIC) in Birmingham KIDSNTS transport service. She has over 20 years’ experience within critical care and qualified as an Advanced practitioner in 2012. Birmingham has the largest single centre PIC in the UK with 31 beds. It is the lead centre for paediatric intensive care for the West Midlands and cater for 35 specialties including respiratory, cardiac, liver, general surgery. ENT, spinal, orthopaedics, metabolic, endocrine, major trauma. ECLS, neurology and neurosurgery.
As the first AP to qualify in PIC at Birmingham she has been proud to lead the team to develop and grow, developing a robust AP programme. More recently sitting within the adult transport ACP group to share her experiences to help them develop this valuable role as part of the national framework. Her other interests are facilitating advanced communication courses, alongside a research interest in staff wellbeing. Currently she leads the PCCS wellbeing research group and is Principal investigator for sWell, an extensive project in Birmingham to examine staff wellbeing in PIC.
