Stephen joined Healthcare Safety Investigation Branch (HSIB) in April 2019 from Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust, where he held the position of Deputy Medical Director for six years. In this role his portfolio included oversight and development of the serious incident investigation process and implementing the Trust’s response to the National Guidance on Learning from Deaths. He has also worked closely with medicolegal services, particularly in the context of coronial inquests and responding to coroner’s Regulation 28 reports (reports to prevent future deaths). Stephen is also a practising intensive care consultant and anaesthetist with specific interests in improving care of deteriorating patients, sepsis management and acute respiratory failure. He has undertaken a Health Foundation GenerationQ Fellowship and recently completed a master’s degree in Leadership for Quality Improvement.
